This construction guide will take you through the entire process of building your 6ft wide First Tunnels Polytunnel. Each section provides written instructions, with accompanying illustrations and crucially QR access to a relevant video useful when you are in the thick of things.

Building your polytunnel is far from a casual project to entertain yourself on a leisurely Sunday afternoon. On the brighter side, if you’ve successfully tackled flat-pack furniture assembly, constructing your polytunnel should present no significant challenges. Building your own polytunnel can save you hundreds of pounds in construction costs and you can stand back and say, “I built that!” All you need are some basic DIY skills, decent weather conditions and some willing helpers.

Find a comfy armchair and armed with a cup of tea familiarise yourself with the instructions and videos. The more preparation you do, the more likely the project will proceed smoothly without surprises. Getting all your tools together is a must. There’s nothing worse than getting stuck in and then realising your battery-operated drill needs charging or forgetting your ladders are out on loan.

Use the checklist supplied with your polytunnel to identify the individual parts and components.

The sections have been organised in chronological order, however assembling your doors and frames can be done in isolation (sections M0613/M0614), useful if weather conditions interrupts assembly of the polytunnel framework. Each section and relevant video, lists the parts and tools required. Use the checklist supplied with your polytunnel to identify the individual parts and components.

Identifying our steel tube is easy – using this code as an example 25/50FS, would be a tube with a 25mm diameter and would be 50cm long – with one end being Swaged (S) and the other end Flattened (F).  Plain (P) denotes a normal tube end.  This naming convention is used throughout the sections and videos.
